In Memory of Jennifer Derksen

It is with sad hearts that Branch staff, volunteers and supporters remember Jennifer Derksen from Morden who passed away on Jun 21st.

A key volunteer for Manitoba Branch, Jennifer was a very special, kind lady who first approached us to learn of ways she could assist others affected by kidney disease in Manitoba.  Before long she offered to take on lead roles, and most recently organized the first Kidney Walk at Morden, in September of last year.  Her conviction was contagious and she engaged many, many supporters and volunteers.  She was always ready for the next task or opportunity!  Jennifer was a very effective spokesperson and ambassador for the Foundation, sharing her personal story of living with kidney disease with sponsors, other patients and the media.

We remember Jennifer’s warm smile and loving ways.  There was always a ‘round of hugs’ for all.  Her strong spiritual beliefs gave her strength throughout her battle, and she was an inspiration to us all.

New Reimbursement Program for Home Hemo-Dialysis Patients

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is pleased that Manitoba patients who treat their kidney disease independently, at home, will now be reimbursed for the extra water and power costs incurred during these treatments. The Province of Manitoba approved proposals submitted by the Nocturnal Home Hemodialysis Patient Action Group and the Manitoba Branch of the Kidney Foundation for this important initiative. The Manitoba Branch will administer the Home Hemo-Dialysis Reimbursement Program. Click here for more info about the New Reimbursement Program for Home Hemo Dialysis Patients
